The Protes T20 Â Wornld Cup campaign got underway with a crushing 10 wicket victory over Zimbabwe.
A good start yes gggbut i it the-good start The Proteas wanted?
The Proteas batted and bowled well, fair desperately. But it was only Zimbabwe. And it does not mhatter how The Proteas do in the round robin stages. Its the knock-out stages that count. Need I remind you about the last few World Cups? Be it T20 or the 50 over game.
This is where The Proteas problems lie in big competitions.
Is it mental? Or with The Proteas cruising through the opening rounds the players are not getting time in the middle? Its a lot different to a net session?
And the knock-out phase has totally different intensity. Some players may be having their first bat of the tournament. This where problems crop-up as batters are not then use to the conditions. That is why, batters need time in the middle.
Don`t get me wrong, Thatsportsite is very happy with a 10 wicket win. The Proteas were clinical in their execution. Often it is not easy to chase small targets.
Richard Levi was rather sudued. But he still scored at more than a run a ball! Â Thatsportsite hopes that he will learn from this innings that he does not have to go balls to the wall with every delivery!
This will make him more consistent which in turn makes more of a threat at the top of the order.
Be that as it may the openers are always assured of time in the middle. Thatsportsite’s concern is that the other batters are not getting time in the middle. And when they do it is at the knock-out stages of the competition.
The Proteas need to be tested before the knock-out phase begins. This way weak points can be assessed and remedied. This wil make The Proteas a more complete and formidable team.
A team that knows what to do under pressure and and in trying conditions.
This will make a champion team. And they will then bring home the trophies they so desperatley want.
10 wicket win, a good start?
